TASER M26C for Store Owners

Okay, here’s the thing:  You’re getting ready to lock up your store at night.  You’ve run the reports and you’re heading for the door, when someone bursts in, yelling and pushing you back to the counter.  They demand you open the drawer and give them the cash.  What do you do?

taser m26cYou have a split second to make a decision.  You can do exactly what they say and hope they don’t do any harm to you.  Or, if you have some sort of weapon next to the drawer, you can reach down as if you’re going for the drawer, but instead pull the weapon and pop’em with it.

I’m not here to tell you what you SHOULD DO.  That’s a personal decision you have to make for yourself.  But, I can tell you, I keep a TASER M26C next to my cash drawer.  Now, I’ve not had to use it and I certainly hope I don’t have to.  But, if I’m in the “all-too-common” situation above, I at least have a choice.  I want a Taser gun because I don’t want to kill them, although I probably should.  And, I don’t want pepper spray, because they’ll probably just run off.  I want something that’s going to drop them to the ground, allowing me time to call the cops.  While the cops are on the way, I’ll bind the person up.  So, not only are they stopped from taking my money, but they’re also going to be caught.

Think about it and plan accordingly.  Again, I may be too freaked out to do it, but at least I have options.

Best Stun Gun

best stun gunI thought it only appropriate to kick off our new stun gun blog with a talk about what makes the best stun gun.  So many manufacturers and retailers are claiming their stun gun to be the best, but are they really?  I mean, what makes one be the best?

For starters, let’s identify the fact that a stun gun has to be one that the owner will carry.  I mean, I’ve heard far too many stories where someone couldn’t find their weapon quickly enough in their purse or their car.  If any weapon is so clumsy or cumbersome that no one really wants to carry it, what good can it possibly be?

The next thing I think is important in determining which stun gun might be the best is what it looks like.  I don’t think I’ve seen any website touting what a particular model looks like.  But, think about it.  Okay, first, you’re going to be carrying the thing, right?  So, now we need something that any would be attacker will see and determine they really shouldn’t mess with you.  To me, prevention of an attack is what makes ANY weapon effective.  But, since we can’t all be walking around with tire irons in our hand, I think it best to find a good quality stun gun that has a pretty menacing appearance.

And, yes, finally, technical specs are important, too.  What good is carrying a unit that has a good bark, but can’t really bite if you need it?  Many makers are touting only voltage as what sets their stun gun apart from the rest.  Well, let me tell you, there’s more than that.  Amperage is what takes down a body quickly or slowly, depending on how much of it there is.  So, you want the highest amperage stun gun you can find.  Most extremely high voltage units, like 7, 8 or 10 million volt units, only deliver 1 to 2 milliamps of current.  And, most stun guns available today generate approximately 3 milliamps of current.  But, the stun guns with the highest amperage, something that helps make them be the best, deliver about 4.5 milliamps.  More amperage means a quicker drop to the ground.

(note:  5 milliamps is considered lethal, so there is no stun gun higher than this amount.  I have seen claims of a  model that delivers 11 milliamps.  But, what I suspect here is that someone, a while back, had poor math in calculating what the unit generated and other websites copied the original one.)
